Curious and Fantastic Creatures
Dianne Longley (South Australia)

9.5 x 9 x 3 cm
Concertina book in decorated wooden box, with intaglio prints,
inkjet colour, Indian and Western papers
This small concertina book explores curious and weirdly fascinating creatures
which cross timezones and cultural origins; creatures which personify inner realities
rather than outer human and animal forms
My curious and fantastic creatures have origins in the Renaissance historia
animaliam of Conrad Gesner, humorous figures from 16th Century French
humanist and artist Francois Rabelais, contemporary Japanese 'kawai',
pop imagination figures and toys, and grotesque imagery through history
